About the Content on this Website:

A lot of my technical interest goes into interactive 3D graphics, where the emphasis lies in 'interactive'. Therefore I want to briefly explain what X3D is:

X3D is an open standard for interactive 3D Graphics on the Internet. Like HTML allows to describe 2D content, X3D allows to describe 3D geometry as well as how the user can interact with it. X3D has been created by the Web3D Consortium. Its predecessor standard was called VRML.

Like you need a browser software for viewing HTML pages you need an X3D Player for viewing X3D content. This is usually a browser plug-in but there are also Java applets. I'd recomend BS Contact VRML/X3D from Bitmanagement.

   General Content:

Publications of Herbert Stocker
I have recently published a paper about Follower nodes, a way to add animations to interactive graphics without adding complexity for the author. The other paper i'm an author of deals with navigation in VR environments using multiple input modalities. My diploma thesis covers the same topic more extensively and describes an extension to X3D for customizing the navigation process. Both papers have been accepted by the Web3D consortium.

Tutorials for 3D Developers
Problems understanding rotations in 3D? Then this section is right four you...

   X3D Centric Content:

Protos for your X3D scene
This section contains some PROTOs (software modules) that you can reuse in your X3D based 3D worlds. I'm especially proud of the Damper nodes which allow to easily create transitions dynamically and have been covered in my paper about Follower nodes () .

Fun X3D Scenes
Here you can find some X3D scenes I've created over time. Most of them are meant to be browser independent but some use the extensions of BS Contact.

Applications in X3D
These are a few of the applications that i have done in X3D in the last two years.

Tools for X3D
Here you can find a few tools that help when working with X3D. The highlight there is the DocPointer, which is a PHP script that makes VrmlPad (a program for creating X3D content) show help pages not only for standard nodes, but also for PROTOs of other X3D authors.
